The City of Chicago is facing some very challenging times in navigating the issue of youth violence. Our elected leaders, along with many of our community organizations, are working together to address the ongoing, and senseless tragedies. As part of that commitment, we are working alongside many community agencies and corporate partners on a free community event called, Summer of Opportunity, set for Friday June 23rd. In short, the event is a community building celebration with the aim of connecting young people and families with positive activities, summer jobs and resources to have a safe and successful summer. The event will be held in the Austin neighborhood and include a short “Parade for Peace” and a celebration in Columbus Park. Please know that June 23rd marks the end of the school year and is a very vulnerable time for our city’s young citizens. In addition to school children, the event is expected to draw prominent members of the civic community, as well as former athletes and other role models who care deeply about this mission and our city’s kids.
We want to know if you will join us for this celebration. Please complete the following registration form as we need to get an accurate count for food, t-shirts and accommodations. If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to Adam Alonso at BUILD: (773) 227-2880 or by email [email protected].
